Climate impact

It is inevitable that production of furniture impacts the climate. Fortunately, we have a strong focus on minimizing our climate impact in all areas.

Over the coming years, we will increase collection of climate data. We have already mapped  majority of our direct (scope 1) and indirect (scope 2) climate impact. Within the next few years we plan to map the emissions from the first parts of our external value chain (scope 3). We apply the widely recognized GHG protocol in mapping and calculation of our emission footprint to ensure the quality of data.

Energy

A lot of energy, in the form of electricity and heat, is used in our production. We are constantly working to optimize our facilities and machinery to minimize our consumption of electricity and heat.

To get the right basis for decision, and to force ourselves to improve continuously, we have become certified in energy management (ISO 50001). This means that we collect data on our energy consumption and make improvements where it is possible.

Materials

We prioritize buying raw materials with a high proportion of recycled material for the types of material where it makes sense, e.g. wood based raw materials and components. At the same time, we strive to minimize the content of harmful substances in the raw materials, both for the sake of our end users, but also to increase the usability of the materials when the furniture is disposed.

After use, our furniture can be disassembled, and if the infrastructure where the end user lives allows it, the wood materials can be used again for new chipboards. Alternatively, it can be used in heat production at local heating plants. We have an increasing focus on this part of the life cycle of our furniture and we are trying to ensure the best and most climate friendly disposal or recycling after use.

Transportation

Our raw materials are predominantly from European suppliers, including our largest supplier, which is located less than 100 km from the factories in Denmark. This minimizes the need for transportation in this part of the value chain. The vast majority of raw materials are transported by truck, and we are working to improve the climate impact from here.

Our internal transportation takes place mainly on forklifts, which runs almost exclusively on electricity.

Our end products are exported all over the world, and it is inevitable that a negative impact will come from here. The products are transported by truck, train, and ship. This is a focus area that we will be addressing in the future.
